Students in the Butler Area School District are nearly ready to begin a new school year.
Wednesday marks the first day of classes for students in the seven elementary schools, Intermediate, Senior High, and Center Avenue.
According to a letter from Superintendent Dr. Brian White, one of the focuses this year for teachers and administrators is the use of Artificial Intelligence. This could result in a shift in assessment of learning from the quality of a final essay to evaluation of the entire writing process.
White also mentioned using a $1.3 million Stronger Connections grant from the PA Department of Education to personalize learning for students as well as additional spending to secure and implement weapon detection systems to improve safety.
