Butler high school junior Drew Griffith has been named the Gatorade Pennsylvania Boys Cross Country Player of the Year Monday. Butler junior Drew Griffith won the award and is only the third WPIAL boys runner to win it since 2010. Drew won the WPIAL Class 3A championship this year and set a Penn West California course record for a high school runner. After finishing as the runner-up at the PIAA championships, He went on to win the Champs Sports Northeast regional championship, which qualified him for the national meet. Griffith had a top-10 finish at nationals.
The Gatorade state player of the year awards recognize individuals for athletic and academic achievement as well as character on and off the field. Griffith has a 4.18 grade-point average.
