Butler Area School District officials are weighing their options for the future of the football program after the WPIAL board denied Butler’s request to be released from the league.
Butler was seeking an associate membership in District 10—which includes schools in Mercer and Erie Counties.
Butler Athletic Director Bill Mylan said there are a few options on the table now, which include remaining in the WPIAL. The school could also play independently or partner with District 10 for scheduling, however those options would prevent Butler from making it to the playoffs.
Mylan said a decision needs to be reached by January 3rd, which is the scheduling deadline for the WPIAL.
Butler football has gone winless the last two years.
