The dress code was once again a topic of conversation at Monday night’s Butler Area School District school board meeting.
Three possible amendments to the revised policy were discussed by board members but ultimately the amendments did not have enough votes to be added to the policy.
The art program will be putting together a diagram, which will be included with the student handbook. Parents and students remain concerned about uneven enforcement of the school’s current code.
Representatives from a committee, which included district administrators, teachers, parents and students, recommended changes- including allowing torn or ragged clothing, as long as the holes or tears are below the fingertips when students’ arms are fully extended at their sides. Another change would be to allow leggings or other similar tight-fitting clothing, as long as a top is worn that covers the student’s behind.
The second reading and expected finalization of Butler’s new dress code policy is expected to occur at next week’s regular meeting.
