A familiar face is taking over as the next president of the Butler Area School District Board of School Directors.
Butler graduate and native Al Vavro was elected by a 5 to 4 vote of board members over fellow board member John Conrad.
“I was a teacher in this district for 18 years and I was a principal in the district for 18 years,” Vavro said. “I’ve been a board member for two terms, and my objective is simple—continue to move this district forward and focus on rooting for every student, every single day.”
Vavro thanked outgoing board president Nina Teff for her leadership over the past four years.
“I think she did yeoman’s work with streamlining the board procedures and unpacking things so that we are more effective and efficient in our work,” Vavro said.
Mary Waggoner was chosen as the new vice president of the board over previous vice present Jennifer Cummings.
New board members Jennifer Daniels-Wells and Tom Harrison were sworn in and took part in their first board meeting as members.
