The lease agreement between the Butler Area School District and Butler County Emergency Services for Broad Street School could be finalized as soon as later this week.
The Butler Area School Board approved a motion to enter into a lease agreement with the county for $1 a month through July. Butler Health System would manage the facility with the County Sheriff providing security so no District employees would be working there.
Butler Area Superintendent Dr. Brian White talks about all the work that has been done so far by district employees at the facility.
“We’ve installed six showers in total in the nurses office. We’ve been duct work in to make it a negative air environment. The building had no wireless hubs, nor was it connected to the internet, so the IT staff got it up-and-running in two days,” White said.
“There was work that needed done for us to use the building as a school in the future,” White said. “The elevator needed fixed and the air conditioning needed updated.”
The costs of the modifications along with the salaries paid to district employees to do the work will be submitted to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency for reimbursement.
