The Butler Area School District is joining a class action lawsuit against the largest manufacturer of electronic cigarette devices.
Monday night the District’s Board of School Directors approved a motion to enter into an attorney client fee contract with the Franz Law Group to sue Juul Labs Inc.
The district’s solicitor Tom King recommended that Butler join this suit which already has many districts involved and is expected to be filed in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco. The suit alleges that Juul and its parent company Altria created an epidemic that affects the health of students, disrupts learning, and takes time and money from education.
According to board president Al Vavro, any settlement the district would receive would be used to purchase vapor detectors as well as educate kids about the dangers of vaping.
The Karns City School Board also decided to join this lawsuit during their meeting Monday night.
