The Butler Area School District is moving forward with plans to improve the safety and security of students and staff.
During a meeting on Monday night, the school board accepted the construction bid for alterations to the Butler High School Security Entrance, which is near the library. Moret Construction Company, based in Lower Burrell, with do the work for about $84,000.
Moret was the lowest of three companies to submit a bid on the project. Construction is expected to begin soon.
The school board also approved the purchase of 28 handcuffs and handcuff cases for school police officers from Witmer Public Safety Group Officer Store for nearly $1,500. Additional radios have also been purchased to go along with five that were previously purchased.
The district has received a state grant for $25,000 but is waiting to hear about additional funding requests.
