The National School Lunch Program, a federally assisted meal program, has announced changes in requirements for school lunches, these changes will allow for “Lunchables” to be served due to low staffing numbers.
That’s not the case in the Butler Area School District, but they are also short on food workers. Superintendent Dr. Brian White says that they have been understaffed all year.
The district contracts their food service, and White hopes a recent decision will help improve the situation.
“We have been short the entire year, and we continue to be short. Aramark is our contractor and they have a couple of hiring initiatives that they are trying, but that matches the regional and national trends on employee shortages,” White said.
These pay raises won’t impact the cost of lunch as some schools in the district have qualified for a reimbursement program and are served free lunch and breakfast.
Dr. White did make it clear that school students deserve a hot lunch every day.
