All schools within the Butler Area School District will now carry a potentially life-saving medication.
The school board has approved the first reading of a change to policy about stocking epinephrine, also known as an Epi-Pen.
Although state law does not currently require schools to carry epinephrine, the district has received a grant to allow for epi-pens to be stocked in the nurses’ offices of all school buildings.
Nurses and health techs have received training so that in the event of an unforeseen allergic reaction, epinephrine can be administered. Students who are aware of an allergy can still have their own injector available to them in case it is necessary.
