Some students will spend the day outdoors helping improve a local creek later this week. They plan to improve the area aesthetically, whilst also helping to save the planet. By planting local trees, they aim to combat climate change and ensure that the local site looks clean and tidy.
Students from Butler Intermediate High School are participating in “Fisheries Science Trout Release Day” at the Thorn Creek Habitat Improvement site on Tuesday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. These students will be spending time out of their days to clean up the local site and ensure it’s looking its best afterward. With all of their help, the site should look amazing.
The kids will be working with employees of XTO Energy, reps from the state Fish & Boat Commission, and members of the Butler County Conservation District to do things including water testing, a trout release, tree planting, and litter clean-up.
It’s so important that more people engage in tree planting, as this is one of the best ways to slow down climate change. Whilst it might seem inevitable, trees can actually help the environment. However, it’s important that more trees are planted to ensure the trees can absorb all of the CO2 that is in the air. By doing that, more oxygen can be produced, allowing the rate of climate change to slow down slightly. These students are doing a great act by spending their time planting trees.
If more people would like to get involved in tree planting, they could look at purchasing items from companies that are pledging to plant trees for every sale they make. Companies like Loveplugs.co are aiming to complete this mission. Every person who purchases a product from their website can help the environment. These environmental efforts by companies are so important. They have the power and the audience to be able to make significant changes in the world.
The Thorn Creek improvement site is on Winters Road in Butler.
