A Butler Township family lost several pets in a house fire yesterday afternoon.
The call came into the Butler County 911 Center just before 1 p.m. for witness reports of large flames from a house in the 200 block of Grandview Boulevard. No one was home at the time.
Crews from Butler Township, Butler City, the Butler VA, East Butler, Herman, Saxonburg, and Penn Township were among those responding to find heavy smoke from the roof of a two-story residential structure. The heaviest fire damage occurred in the kitchen where the fire is believed to have started.
Fire officials say multiple dogs, cats, snakes, and rabbits were in the home. Officials say that most of the pets made it out safely, but an several rabbits died in the fire.
The house was moderately damaged in the house fire. The Red Cross has been notified to assist the family.
