The Butler Transit Authority is making additional route reductions as a result of health issues with bus drivers.
The Authority’s Executive Director John Paul informed the board Tuesday night that local service Routes 5 and 2/4 will not operate until further notice.
Wednesday afternoon the authority announced that local route 3 is no longer in service and route 1 is ending service after trip 7. At that time all local service will be postponed and the downtown bus terminal will be closed.
The cause of this reduction is a shortage of healthy drivers with the authority’s contractor.
“BTA’s subcontractor MV only has four available drivers for the whole system; commuter and local. So we only have four drivers and we have seven routes,” Paul said. “Can’t do it.”
Paul also explained that commuter service has been reduced to one run on Route 8 and one on Route 68 (Commuter Routes 2 and 3). Regular commuter service could be restored by Monday.
Full local service will be restored as soon as possible when alternate options present themselves. Visit the Butler Transit Authority website for more information.
