The Butler Transit Authority will use the money from the recent sale of a couple of buses to purchase new desktop computers.
Executive Director John Paul informed the authority board of directors that the authority received a total of nearly $4,000 through the online sale of two buses no longer in service.
The winning bidder is expected to use the bus engines and scrap the rest. Because the money received in the sale must be used for a capital expense, the decision was made to put the funds towards needed new desktop computers.
The 35-foot Gillig diesel bus and 30-foot Gillig diesel bus had been donated to the Antique Motor Coach Association of Pennsylvania in May however the association was unable to accept the donation due to limited space. The 30-foot bus is one of the last of that size and style to come off the assembly line in California.
The buses were purchased from the Port Authority in Allegheny County and refurbished for use in Butler a couple years ago before new compressed natural gas buses took their place.
