A familiar name in local government is expressing appreciation for as well as receiving appreciation from those he has worked with as a Butler Township Commissioner.
Fred Vero took some time at his final meeting as a Butler Township Commissioner Monday night to wish his successor the best of luck along with thanking residents for the honor of serving.
In addition, Vero thanked family, township staff, administrators, and fellow commissioners for all their patience, assistance, and cooperation regardless of political affiliation during his time on the board. Many of those same individuals expressed respect and admiration for Vero and his efforts on behalf of the township.
In 50 years of public service, Vero has spent time as military policeman in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, a member of Butler City Council, Mayor of Butler, a trustee of Butler County Community College, 18 years as a chief of staff in Harrisburg, and volunteering with many local organizations.
