The last local step in the sale of the Butler Area Sewer Authority was approved last night by the Butler Township Commissioners.
At their Monday meeting, the Commissioners voted in favor of a resolution supporting the $231.5 million deal for PA American Water to purchase the system and assets of the Authority.
The City and Butler Township have been the owners of the authority since its creation in 1962, meaning they are expected to have a 50/50 split of the money obtained from the deal.
This is the final local step in the approval process, which now moves to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission as the final step in the sale of this system. However, officials say this process will take some time. The approval by the PUC may not come for another six to nine months.
