Butler Township spent a large amount of money to make sure roads were safe for motorists last month.
According to Commissioner Joe Wiest- who is assigned responsibility for the Butler Township Road Department- the municipality spent a total of over $113,000 on road maintenance in January.
Of that amount, over $95,000 was spent for over 1,500 tons of salt put down on 186 miles of road surface in the township. An additional $18,000 was spent on 434 overtime hours for crews working 22 salt-runs and one plowing event during the first month of 2019.
Wiest continued by saying this amount of salt usage is not abnormal, and this year’s expense is on par with a heavy 2018 so far.
