A new restaurant and car dealership got formal approval by the Butler Township Commissioners.
A developer will move forward with construction of another new Dunkin’ coffee and donut restaurant in Butler Township.
The over 1,600 square foot structure will be built on Route 8 South on a property that was formerly the site of a Pizza Hut. The existing Dunkin restaurants in other areas of the county will remain open.
The Butler Township Commissioners unanimously approved the plans during a meeting Monday. Heartland Restaurant Group will own the store along with the Dunkin on North Main Street in the city of Butler and the one at Butler Crossing in Butler Township as well as the newest in the area in Slippery Rock.
The new restaurant will have a drive-thru able to accommodate up to 15 vehicles in a waiting line. The facility will also have about 19 parking spaces to allow for eat-in customers.
PennDOT has given approval for entrance and exit to and from the restaurant onto Route 8 in the northern of the two current entrances while the southern will become an exit only. Two new catch-basins will be installed for storm water but existing pipes will be used.
Construction on the new Dunkin is expected to begin around the middle of next year.
Commissioners also gave approval to Diehl Volkswagen for a land development project at the former NexTier Bank headquarters on Route 8 South and Vogel Road next to Sheetz.
Diehl already owns the property but will expand the facility into a factory approved dealership and service center.
Diehl will not have a collision repair facility at this location but would make use of the available office space for their headquarters as they expand to Sharon, Grove City, Robinson, and beyond.
