Residents of Butler Township continue to take advantage of a township service offered for the first time this year- free recycling of electronics and hazardous household waste.
According to data released Monday by the board, over 11 tons of waste was collected from 170 households during the third quarter of the year- including more than seven tons of TVs, over 800 pounds of computers, nearly 1,000 pounds of monitors and over one ton of latex paint.
In order to recycle electronics and hazardous waste, residents have to call Waste Management at a special number (1-800-449-7587) and provide information about the items to be disposed. The company will then send an appropriate container. The residents then fill the container with the item and place it out at the curb.
The entire process takes about two weeks. Only one electronics item can be recycled at one time. Pharmaceuticals, batteries, and tires are not accepted.
