Butler Township’s Preston Park is once again open for community use.
The township commissioners made the announcement during a meeting on Monday night that all major trails in the park have been cleared, but there is still some debris off to the side in some areas.
“The park is now officially open to the public. Get out there and enjoy it,” Jim Lokhaiser, township commissioner, said Monday.
Township Manager Tom Knights made sure to thank all the people who contributed to allow this project to be completed- including Assistant Manager Cheryl McNeill, Facilities Manager Eric Heltzell, road department personnel and the township’s forestry consultant.
The park had been closed since last November following an ice storm that damaged several trees enough that they needed to be removed. The township’s tree management plan for the park will continue for several more years but no additional work is planned for the immediate future.
