Local municipalities are opening the door for the possibility of an outside company purchasing the Butler Area Sewer Authority.
Earlier this week, the Butler Township Commissioners approved a resolution directing BASA administrators to cooperate with any request for documents that will allow for dialogue and informed decisions concerning a potential sale.
Butler City Council is expected to discuss and possibly pass a similar resolution at their meeting on Thursday.
It’s still quite early in the process, but private ownership of water treatment systems has grown more popular since a new state law was approved in 2016. Earlier this year, PA American Water officials expressed interest in buying the Butler Area Sewer Authority system.
