Flying is usually the easiest way to get to Los Angeles, but a Butler woman is making the trek the hard way.
Rebecca McCrea is currently in Lebanon, Missouri as she walks across the United States, making her way to L.A.
“I had knee surgery in February 2019, and I was watching the Ellen DeGeneres Show. And she does all these kinds things very different people and is very inspirational,” McCrea said. “I thought, ‘What can I do that is totally out-of-the-box that is kind of the same?”
That’s when McCrea settled on the idea of walking across the United States for a charity. She is walking for the Best Friends Animal Society, which promotes pet adoption and no-kill animal shelters.
McCrea said she walks about 25 miles per day and is followed by a chase van, that keeps exact track of her trip.
“The place I stop every night or where I end my walk, we’ll GPS pin-it so we know to go back to that exact location the next day,” McCrea said.
McCrea, who founded the Butler-based Hickey Bottom BBQ, started her walk on May 18th in Butler and hopes she can reach her goal of walking the whole way to the Ellen DeGeneres Show by September.
