Butler cross country runner Drew Griffith won the Class 3A state title Saturday, becoming the second individual PIAA champion in three years. Butler’s C.J. Singleton won the state title 2021. Griffith’s winning time was 15:23.
–The Grove City boys were second overall in the Class 2A team event. Freeport’s Michael Braun finished ninth overall individually.
Butler’s Owen Dressler was an All-State medalist with a 22nd place finish out of the 239 runners in the 3A race. His time was 16:32. Butler as a team finished ninth.
Out of 237 girls running in the Class 3A race: Hailey Long of Mars finished 38th with a time of 19:51. Ava Brewster of Butler was 44th with a time of 20:02, topping her course-best time by more than :30 seconds. Her teammate Makayla McLister had the same effort with a time of 20:43.
Grove City’s M.J. Pottinger was a state medalist with a 14th place finish with a time of 16:38. The Eagles placed four runners inside the top-40 of 250 runners.
North Catholic’s Madeline Meeuf was 10th. Knoch’s Ava Santora was 47th out of 249 runners in the 2A race.
