High School Sports:
–Butler runner C.J. Singleton won a second consecutive WPIAL Cross Country championship Thursday, finishing in a time of 16:26. Singleton edged teammate Drew Griffith by just under six seconds for the title. Seneca Valley’s Noah Peterson finished fifth.
–The North Allegheny Boys took the overall Class 3A team title 51 to 86 over Butler. The Tigers also claimed the Girls title.
–The Seneca Valley Girls runners were fourth.
–The North Catholic Girls finished fourth overall in Class 2A.
Girls Soccer:
–Seneca Valley defeated Norwin 4-3 last night in overtime in the Class 4A Quarterfinals. The Raiders will meet Fox Chapel in the semifinals Monday.
–Fox Chapel knocked off two-time defending WPIAL champion North Allegheny with a 5-4 victory in an overtime shoot-out.
–Moon defeated Butler 1-0.
–In Class 3A – Mars defeated Oakland Catholic 6-0 led by four goals from Piper Coffield. The Planets earned a fifth-consecutive trip to the WPIAL semifinals. They will face Montour Tuesday.
–The North Catholic Girls will face Yough in the Class 2A Quarterfinals Saturday at Mars high school beginning at 1pm.
Boys Soccer:
–North Catholic upset previously undefeated South Park 1-0. Dylan Greggs scored the only goal of the game and Devin Paschall recorded the shutout for the Trojans. South Park was the top seed entering the Class 2A playoffs. North Catholic will meet Charleroi Monday in the 2A Semifinals.
Saturday:
–Butler will travel to Peters Township in the Class 4A Quarterfinals. The match begins at 1pm.
–Seneca Valley will host Allderdice at 2pm.
–North Allegheny will travel to Norwin at 2pm.
Girls Volleyball:
–North Allegheny improved to 14-1 with a 3-0 victory over Seneca Valley.
–Moon eliminated Pine-Richland 3-2.
Saturday:
–Freeport will host Beaver in the Class 3A Quarterfinals at 2pm.
–North Catholic will host Frazier in the 2A Quarterfinals at noon.
