Carl E. “Gene” Jones, 97, of Chicora, passed away Monday morning, January 29, 2024 at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Carl was born in Butler on December 20, 1926. He was the son of the late Clair “Casey” and Arlene Raybuck Jones.
He was a 1944 graduate of Butler High School. Carl was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran having served in World War II in the states where he was in charge of security for military detainees.
He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora.
In his earlier years he had been employed at Western Union. He retired from the metallurgy department of Armco in 1985 following more than 30 years of service.
He enjoyed bird watching, hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, billiards, crossword puzzles, and watching gameshows and sports on t.v. Gene enjoyed music, especially Sinatra, Elvis, Streisand, and his all time favorite song, “Shangri La”.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia C. Beck of Butler; two grandchildren, Adriane E. Beck of Butler and Ian E. Beck and his wife, Bur, of Cranberry Twp; a great grandson, Remy W. Beck, and a number of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia M. McCullough Jones, whom he married on October 12, 1948. Mrs. Jones passed away on November 21, 2010.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Edward C. Beck, who died February 11, 2021.
Friends will be received in The Good Shepherd Room at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Rd., Chicora, from 10 a.m. – 12 Noon Thursday. A funeral service will follow at the church at 12 Noon with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Cemetery in the Village of Kepple’s Corners. Military honors will be accorded at the church by members of the Chicora and Brady’s Bend American Legion Posts.
