Carl R. Hortert, 90, of Evans City, passed away, Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.
He was born August 17, 1933 in Butler, a son of the late Eugene Hortert and Laura (Fontaine) Hortert.
Carl was a self-employed painter, having worked until December of 2020. He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, the French and Belgium Club and the Moose Lodge. He belonged to various bowling and golfing leagues, was an avid hunter and card player, especially 500 and euchre. He was a loyal supporter of his children’s sports activities and along with his brother Paul started the Hortert family reunions, which were held for more than 60 years.
Surviving are his children: Daniel (Kathy) Hortert of Maryland, Larry (Debra) Hortert of Georgia, Keith (Nean) Hortert of Beaver Falls, Debbie (Frank) Zbuckvich of Butler and Jeff (Leslie) Hortert of Kentucky.
18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
2 sisters, Mable Johnston of Renfrew and Shirley Crawford of Butler.
Numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerna R. (Gilliland) Hortert, whom he married November 7, 1950, she passed away June 1, 2020; his son, Richard R. Hortert; 5 brothers Al, Lou, Joeles, Paul and Frank Hortert; 1 sister, Esther.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10:00 am, at St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road in Meridian. Interment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
