Carole Smith Dickson, 77, of Gibsonia, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford, PA.
Born March 21, 1945 in Port Allegheny, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Jack E. Smith and Winifred (Elliot) Smith.
Carole was a 1963 graduate of Knoch High School. She then went on to Penn State Main Campus where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Home Economic Education. During her professional years, Carole was a high school home economics teacher in Maryland and Philadelphia.
Throughout her life, Carole was very active in her community. She was a member of Nixon United Methodist Church, the Butler Garden Club, the Butler Country Club and a cub scout leader of Pack 53. Carole was a former chairman of Butler County, trustee of the YMCA and Butler County’s first Junior Miss. One of Carole’s favorite hobbies was golfing. She was a member of the golf team at Penn State and a member of the Women’s Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania and helped with the Butler Country Club Junior Golf Program. Carole also enjoyed sewing, gardening, swimming, cooking and the Steelers. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family and her dog, Toby.
Carole is survived by her husband, John Craig Dickson, Jr. whom she married on September 8, 1967; three sons: John Craig “JC” (Erin) Dickson, III of Gibsonia, PA, Travis Craig (Amy) Dickson of Mars, PA and Jefferson Craig (Mary Ann) Dickson of Rumson, NJ and seven grandchildren: Emerson, Eleah, Isabel, Olivia, Annie, Faye and Smith and her brother-in-law, Robert Brehm
In addition to her parents, Carole was preceded in death by two sisters: Katherine “Joyce” (Smith) Brehm and Sally Lynn Smith and one brother: Jack Elliot Smith.
All are invited to attend a memorial visitation for Carole on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. 124 E. North St. Butler, PA 16001. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00PM at First United Methodist Church 200 E. North St. Butler, PA 16001 with Rev. David Janz officiating.
