The chief lobbying group for counties in Pennsylvania is supporting a lawsuit that deals with sheriff departments agreements with ICE.
Juniata County is involved in litigation involving their sheriff, who signed what is known as the 287g agreement with ICE to help with immigration enforcement.
The County Commissioner Association of Pennsylvania filed an amicus brief in support of Juniata County, who argues that counties have the right to enter into the agreements, not the sheriff.
In Butler County, Sheriff Mike Slupe also signed the 287g agreement and has assisted in ICE operations.
The agreement has been subject to criticism at the county commissioner meetings for the past few weeks.
