Everything is different in this COVID era. But, the support for Veterans remained unchanged.
Veterans of all ages, and those in community stood amid a drizzle Wednesday morning to honor those who have served their country. Director of Butler County Veterans Services John Cyprian presented the ceremony that included a moment of silence.
“When the original armistice was signed, there was a two minute world-wide observance of silence,” Cyprian said. “There was no peace treaty signed at the armistice, just a collective agreement to cease fire.”
In addition to a moment of silence, the 2020-21 Veteran of the Year LeRoy Bunyan addressed the crowd.
“They served with dignity, they served with honor, and that’s what Veterans Day is all about; serving those who served us. When you leave today, if you see a veteran out-and-about, go up and tell them thank you. They will appreciate it,” Bunyan said.
Members of the community stood in silence as Taps ended the ceremony.
