With extra decorations around many houses, the holiday season is a perfect time to take special care when it comes to fire safety.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, December is the peak time for chances of home fires caused by cooking and candles.
Trees should be watered daily to reduce the rate at which they dry out and become more flammable. Christmas Day and Christmas Eve are the second and third most likely days for home cooking fires, only trailing Thanksgiving.
People should also have chimneys professionally cleaned and heaters professionally serviced in order to reduce the chances of a fire. Visit the NFPA Winter Holidays website for more information.
