You may have to dig around the couch cushions a little more this year as the country deals with a shortage of coins in circulation.
A variety of businesses and trade associations said in a joint statement to the Treasury Department that they’re seeing a shortage of coins.
They’re now asking that the department and the public do more to get coins back in circulation—which was a similar request they made in 2020.
Officials say the shortage of coins impact the consumers who don’t use electronic payments.
