A state committee has approved a new bill that would update some of the regulations behind Pennsylvania’s fireworks law.
State Representative Frank Farry of Bucks County says the changes are in response to a number of complaints he has heard from constituents.
“Individuals will still have the freedom to shoot fireworks in the appropriate areas as it exists in the current law,” Farry said. “But, also your neighbor can’t shoot fireworks at 2 a.m. 365 days a year, which is part of the problems we’re encountering.”
Farry says there’s also been an impact on emergency services with increases in property loss and people getting injured. He hopes that new provisions will reduce these instances.
The bill also calls for increasing penalties for selling or using consumer fireworks in violation of the law. The bill now goes to the full house.
