The Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 25-10 in the Sunday Night Football Game. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had his worst game as a Steeler, throwing for 161-yards and had two interceptions. The Steelers did not convert a third down until the fourth quarter of the game. His lone touchdown of the game came late in that fourth quarter, a 27-yard pass to Roman Wilson. He was sacked three times.
The Steelers defense sacked Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert five times and held the league’s second-leading passer to 220 yards. But the defense also dropped two potential interceptions in the game. Alex Highsmith had two of the sacks.
The Steelers lost veteran defensive back Darius Slay to a concussion during the game.
Kicker Chris Boswell gave the Steelers an early 3-0 lead with a 59-yard field goal in the first quarter. Boswell improved to 7 for 8 on attempts from 50-plus yards this season. For his career, he is 50 for 60 on attempts from 50-plus yards for the highest percentage from that distance in the league since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. He has the 13 longest field goals in franchise history. He did miss a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Last night’s game was the Steelers third loss in the past four games. All three losses were in prime time, games in which the Steelers have been outscored, 93-66. Their lead in the AFC North is down to a game over Baltimore, who defeated Minnesota 27-19 Sunday afternoon.
The Steelers host the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday at 1pm. The Bengals were in their “bye” week.
In the Monday Night Football game tonight – the Green Bay Packers host the Philadelphia Eagles at 8:15pm.
