A Butler man is in custody following an incident with a firearm in the City of Butler early Tuesday morning.
City Police were called out to investigate shots fired in the 400 block of East Jefferson Street shortly before 2 a.m.
Upon responding to the scene, police found 33-year-old Nathan Ferraro with a loaded .22 caliber long rifle. He was also in possession of 43 additional rounds. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police say bullet holes were found in at least two windows of Ferraro’s apartment with multiple spent casings found on the floor. The resident of an apartment downstairs from Ferraro also had three windows shot.
An investigation revealed that Ferraro had shot more than 30 rounds with two different barricades constructed on his property.
Police also said in a release, that they initially were made aware of Ferraro a couple of weeks ago after a “series of escalating events.” On Saturday, April 1st, City Police learned that Ferraro had an active 302 warrant issued by the Butler County Crisis unit. He was taken into custody that day and placed in Butler Memorial Hospital. Police also retrieved three firearms from his house for safekeeping. Ferraro, however, soon had the 302 dropped and was released from the hospital.
Ferraro faces felony charges for aggravated assault and discharging a firearm into an occupied structure. He was booked into the Butler County Jail on $250,000 bond.
