Charles I. Stewart, 83, of Erie, formerly of West Freedom, Clarion County, a retired Pennsylvania State Police trooper, passed away early Thursday morning, January 24, 2019 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning.
Charles was born in Perry Twp., Clarion County, on December 24, 1935. He was the son of the late Kenneth B. and Ruth Hodil Stewart.
Charles was a 1954 graduate of Parker High School. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Charles was a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper for more than 30 years. Early in his career he was stationed at barracks in Meadville and Girard and retired from the Erie barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police. He was a member of the FOP, North East American Legion and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by a sister, Arlene W. Pennington of Bruin, a sister-in-law, Sandy Stewart of St. Petersburg, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Stewart and a brother-in-law, Lewis Pennington.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main Street, Karns City, from 1 – 3 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 3:15 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Myers, a retired Methodist pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hillview Cemetery in the village of Kepple’s Corners.
