Charles R. “Chuck” McDonald passed away on January 22, 2019, from complications resulting from a fall.
Chuck was born on May 11, 1936 to the late Harold McDonald and the late Thelma Milheim McDonald. After leaving the Navy in 1957, he worked at Armco for 4 years until he was able to join the Butler City Fire Department, which was his life’s passion. Chuck served for 23 years and attained the rank of Captain before retiring from the fire department in 1986. He remained active in the fire community and could be seen helping at many of the local fires for years after his retirement. He served as a PTA president, Sunday School teacher, church Deacon, and president of the Beaver County Fireman’s Association. He loved his family and was actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Chuck’s favorite pastimes included attending Southern Gospel concerts, spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, going to yard sales, and hosting picnics for friends at Slippery Rock Campground.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Judith Moran McDonald of Butler, whom he married on June 10, 1961. Other survivors include his daughter Denise McDonald Kremmel of Cranberry and her husband Bruce, his daughter Rene McDonald Fizer and her husband Col. Ron Fizer, US Army (retired), of Springfield, Va, and his son Timothy McDonald and his wife Judy, of Dry Fork, VA. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Ed and Rachel Kremmel, Megan Yeo, and Lauren McDonald.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends will be received Thursday, January 24, 2019, 3 – 6 & 7 – 9 at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Additional Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25 from 10 am to the time of the Funeral Services at 11 am at the Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road Butler, PA, with Reverend Dr. Dennis L. Krajacic, officiating.
Officers and members of the American Legion Post #117 Butler, American Legion Post #778 Lyndora, and VFW Post #249 Butler will conduct Military Honors at the church.
Private Burial will take place in the Lillyville Church of God Cemetery in Ellwood City, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, 102 Mahood Rd., Butler, PA 16001.
