Cheryl Anne “Pete” Cobern, age 56, of Butler, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic due to complications while waiting for a liver transplant. A devoted mother and wife, she was surrounded in love by her husband and children when she passed.
Born in Butler on September 28, 1964, she was a daughter of the late Wilbert C. “Web” Rasely, Sr. and Mary M. Shuler Rasely.
Cheryl graduated in 1985 from St. Francis School of Nursing, New Castle, with a RN degree and later received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Slippery Rock University in 1992.
She was employed at Butler Memorial Hospital for 36 years. Starting as a registered nurse on the medical/surgical floor, she later moved to the maternity ward where she eventually became the Clinical Supervisor. The nurses and staff of 3 Main are, and will always be, her family.
She was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Stephen F. Cobern, whom she married April 25, 1987; three children, Justin A. Cobern, of Seattle, Wash., Sara C. Cobern, of Corning, N.Y., and Abby M. Cobern, of Butler; one sister, Stephanie Hook, of East Butler; two brothers, Wilbert C. “Bub” Rasely, Jr. and his wife, Kathi, of Butler, and James C. Rasely and his wife, Michele, of Slippery Rock; one aunt, Jane Shuler Beck of Sheffield Lake, Ohio.; and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta E. “Sue” Zanicky; an infant brother; and a number of aunts and uncles.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. from St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler, with Rev. Dan Waruszewski officiating.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Out of respect for her as a nurse, masks must be worn, and social distancing will be maintained at the funeral home, church, and cemetery.
