Butler City Council has taken another major step this morning in approving the multi-million dollar sale to the Pennsylvania American Water Company.
At their Thursday meeting, Council voted unanimously to move forward with the $231.5 million deal for PA American Water to purchase the Butler Area Sewer Authority.
“I think this is a significant day in the history of the City of Butler,” Butler City Mayor Bob Dandoy. “From almost the beginning, I’ve been using the word generational and I still think it is. I hope we can realize a lot of good from this as we move forward.”
The City and Butler Township are essentially the owners of the authority, meaning they are expected to have a 50/50 split of the money obtained from the deal.
This is the second of three steps in the local approval process, which is expected to continue Monday with a vote by the Butler Township Commissioners. If that final entity approves the agreement, the deal would then move to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission as the final step in the sale process.
