As the process to sell Butler Area Sewer Authority assets continues to move through the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, both PA American Water and the City of Butler are preparing for approval.
Representatives of PA American Water will attend the next meeting of Butler City Council on February 23rd to present their Act 537 Plan as required by the state. BASA previously submitted this official sewage facilities plan that addresses the existing and future sewage disposal needs of a municipality. The City does not take any action on the plan.
However, Mayor Bob Dandoy and Director of Accounts and Finance Councilman Don Shearer have been meeting with prospective financial advisors about once a week for the past six weeks in an effort to understand more about the services available to the City once the proceeds of the sale are dispersed.
This process does not cost the City and will include a public forum at some point in the future so that City residents can provide feedback about how the large sum of money will be managed.
