Butler City Council is moving forward with a couple of projects to make improvements at local parks.
At their Thursday night meeting, Council members accepted a seven station outdoor fitness equipment and signage package from Sports and Recreation Associates in the amount of just over $7,000 for the Ritts Park Greenways and Trails project. Most of this expense will be covered by a grant and the city is only responsible for about $1,000 of this project. Equipment available for public use will include:
- BODY CURL shall permit users to perform the traditional exercise. The body curl frame shall be constructed of formed 2″ pipe, A-60 Galvannealed, with 7 ga. braces, welded to a handhold assembly constructed of formed and welded 1″ pipe, A-60 Galvannealed. The bench shall be constructed of formed decking of 16 ga. perforated steel containing .489” O.D. holes in a .699” stagger pattern solid welded to a frame of 3/16” x 2” HRF with mounting braces of 3/16” x 1-1/2” HRF and end plates of 3/16” x 2” HRF black sheet, A-60 Galvannealed. The frame shall have a Mira-Cote finish. The bench shall have a Mira-Therm2 or Mira-Therm2 PE finish.
- CHIN UP shall permit users to perform the traditional chinning bar exercise. The Chin Up outer frame shall be constructed of formed 2″ pipe, A-60 Galvannealed with formed rungs of 1″ pipe, A-60 Galvannealed solid welded within. The Chin Up shall be finished in Perma-Guard.
- DIP STATION shall be designed to allow users to perform the traditional “dip” exercise and variations by grasping and supporting their bodies from the handholds and lifting their body weight to relaxed and extended positions. Biceps, back and upper torso shall be most affected by the exercise. The Dip Station shall comprise two “U”-shaped legs of formed 2″ pipe, solid welded to four formed handholds of 1″ pipe. The handholds shall be of two sizes on the unit: approximately 11-11/16” tall, about 24” apart, and approximately 7-11/16” tall, about 23” apart. The assembly shall have a Mira-Cote finish.
- LEG LIFT shall permit users to perform the traditional exercise. The leg lift shall comprise a 130” long post of 3-1/2″ tube with a 3-1/2″ round end cap mechanically fastened to its top end, with “crunch bars” solid welded on opposite sides, which shall be constructed of handhold supports of 7 ga. sheet A-60 Galvannealed solid welded to handhold rungs of formed 1″ pipe. The assembly shall be finished in Mira-Cote.
- PUSH UP shall comprise two elevated, curved bars allowing users to perform the traditional push up exercises. The bars shall be constructed of 1-1/4″ pipe, A-60 Galvannealed. The bars shall be finished in Mira-Cote.
- SIT UP shall permit users to perform the traditional exercise. The Sit Up frame shall be constructed of formed 2″ pipe, A-60 Galvannealed, solid welded to foot supports of the same material and bench-mounting brackets constructed of 7 ga. black sheet. The bench shall be finished in Mira-Therm2 or Mira-Therm2 PE.
- VERTICAL CLIMB shall comprise an arch and eight parallel rungs set 12” apart center-to-center, with the bottom rung being set in the field at 12” from finished grade. The unit shall be designed to permit users to climb up one side, through (or around) the arch, and down the other side. The unit shall consist of a single-piece arch of 3-1/2″ tube measuring 36” from leg center to leg center and 189-1/2” overall, with eight rungs of 1″ pipe solid welded between arch legs. The Vertical Climb shall have a Mira-Cote finish.
The equipment will not be installed until the spring but the city will pay 50% this year in order to get a better deal.
Council also approved a motion from Secure Technical Solutions in the amount of nearly $6,000 for the purchase and installation of security cameras at Memorial Park. This company has already installed many cameras around the city wired directly into the City Police surveillance system. Last year similar cameras were placed in Father Marinaro Park and have proven to be a useful deterrent for vandalism.
