The city of Butler is moving forward with plans that will allow for significant improvements at Father Marinaro Park.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources awarded Butler with a $108,000 grant earlier this year to help with the renovation of the park but that grant comes with requirements.
One of the requirements discussed at the Thursday night meeting of City Council is the recording of environmental covenants with the county on the deed to the properties that make up Father Marinaro Park. This is necessary because of the history of the area as the site of the old Franklin Glass plant.
Included in the project plans are updates to the current softball field, along with buying new playground equipment, resurfacing the basketball court, and building a new shelter. The City had planned to construct a new softball field but that has been changed to be a multi-use field instead that can be used for a variety of activities.
