The City of Butler is making the final payment on the new ladder fire truck and expects to take possession later this month.
At their meeting Thursday night, City Council approved the final payment of just over $490,000 to Glick Fire Equipment Company for the 2021 Pierce 100 foot Mid Mount Tower mounted on an Arrow XT chassis.
According to City Fire Chief Chris Switala, the truck has been delivered to a facility in Zelienople where it is receiving a final check that includes PA inspection as well as the installation of radios and other equipment.
The city anticipates unveiling the new truck on Sunday, October 17th around 2 p.m. at First Responders Day which is being held at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park. City firefighters are expected to train with the new apparatus in the area of Memorial Park.
Council approved the purchase of the new truck for about $1.35 million about one year ago and has been making payments. The city sold their partially functioning 1998 ladder truck over three years ago and has been relying on assistance from neighboring departments as necessary.
