A Butler City Firefighter is being recognized for participation in a professional development training program.
At their meeting last week, City Council commended Lieutenant Timothy Iman for successful completion of the Managing Officer program through FEMA’s U.S. Fire Administration National Fire Academy. Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala explains:
“A managing officer program with the National Fire Academy is a two-year program located in Maryland, where they took over a college campus,” Switala said. “The attendees have to apply and are selected to attend, so it’s an honor to attend the National Fire Academy.”
Topics covered include leadership, incident management, and community risk reduction as well as strategic planning, responder training and safety. According to Switala, Iman concluded the program with a capstone research project.
“Lt. Iman’s research project was in fire investigation and developing the fire investigation standard operating procedure. That’s one of his specialty areas,” Switala said. “It’s done to help impact, change, or improve the department.”
All training is based on national fire academy courses with prerequisites designed for crew level supervisors at the rank of Lieutenant and Captain.
