The City of Butler has declared a State of Emergency.
The announcement was made in a proclamation Wednesday afternoon by Butler City Mayor Ben Smith and City Council.
The City Building is now closed to the public and all city employees have been directed to avoid non-essential contact with the public and co-workers.
Parks will still be able to used by individuals or small groups for walking, jogging, or biking, but the use of playground equipment and other facilities has been prohibited. Councilman Jeff Smith explains:
“We just wanted to do our part to make sure that we did everything we could to make people safe. We are in the process of putting signage up on the playgrounds and closing the skate-park and basketball courts that have fences around will be shut. We hope people will respect that because we don’t really have a good way, we don’t have any way, to disinfect those surfaces.”
The State of Emergency will remain in effect until it is terminated by an act of City Council.
