The City of Butler is advancing a plan that would sell a portion of the parking in the downtown area.
After a lengthy discussion, City Council approved entering into negotiations with a company called Transportation Services Consultants towards an agreement that would sell the Tier Garage and two parking lots beside the City Building for $3.75 million.
At least one councilmember expressed concern about the cost of repairs needed to the Tier Garage if it was not sold. This agreement could also include an agreement for monitoring and enforcement. The raising of parking rates is not part of this agreement but it is possible.
The City Solicitor will now work on drawing up the documents of the transfer which will need to receive final approval by council before the deal is completed.
Council members Mike Walter and Bob Dandoy were opposed to this proposal while council members Jeff Smith, Kenny Bonus, and Mayor Ben Smith voted in favor.
