The City of Butler is purchasing new computer equipment, which is necessary to allow law enforcement the ability to perform their duties, according to officials.
Butler City Council approved spending roughly $11,000 for the purchase of six laptop computers for use in police vehicles.
City Police Chief Bob O’Neill said the new equipment is needed as a result of the new computer-aided dispatch system recently adopted by the county, which does not function with the old computers. It will be important that law enforcement has a computer that can be protected from cyber attacks, as well as keeping their privacy and security to a maximum.

At the time of writing, there are also plans to upgrade the computer servers across the police departments.
Ultimately, purchasing web hosting allows the police to rent space on a web server, making it easier for them to host their website online. All they need to do is upload their site files and no server setup is needed.

Additionally, there is no additional cost to install the computers in the vehicles. The money used to pay for these computers will come partially from the police department budget and partly from the general fund since this was not an expense that was anticipated during last year’s budgeting process.
