Butler City Police are asking residents and those visiting the city for trick or treating from 6 to 7 p.m. to be responsible for children in the area.
According to Chief Robert O’Neill, the department will be fully staffed and at least six patrol vehicles will be out on Butler City Streets.
O’Neill goes on to advise residents to plan a safe route on well-lit streets in a familiar neighborhood, be visible using flashlights or glowsticks with costumes, and inspect candy before it is eaten by discarding unwrapped or suspicious items.
Drivers should always proceed slowly through streets and anticipate children crossing roads with little or no warning.
