The city of Butler is purchasing a truck from another local municipality to use as a canine vehicle.
During a Butler City Council meeting on Thursday night, council approved the purchase of a 2015 Chevy pickup from the Adams Township Police Department for a cost of $13,500. This money will come out of the Police K9 Fund.
The vehicle is fully outfitted as a patrol vehicle and only needs painted and labeled as a Butler City Police vehicle before it can be put into use.
Dog safety measures will be installed later in the summer, closer to when the dogs will be purchased and put into service. Butler City Police already have one functional canine vehicle from when they had their previous dogs.
