A high-ranking member of the armed forces and local native is being recognized by the City of Butler in honor of his years of service.
Butler City Council and Mayor Bob Dandoy issued a proclamation calling today Major General Peter Talleri USMC Day in the City.
A representative of State Representative of Marci Mustello presented Tarreri with a State House citation and flag. The Major General will receive the Hometown Hero Award at the Butler football game tonight.
Talleri spoke about the impact of these honors.
The last thing a person expects in their life is to be recognized by their hometown. This is above and beyond,” Talleri said. “I’ve gotten awards from other places and other countries, but for your hometown to recognize you for a job well done is something that I take in my heart to my grave. This will never be forgotten.”
Talleri graduated from Butler in 1975 and Clarion University in 1979 before serving in the Marine Corps for 34 years until 2013.
