The City of Butler has signed off on a Butler Area Sewer Authority project to reroute a sewer line across a corner of Memorial Park.
At their meeting last week Council approved an easement agreement with BASA concerning replacing an exposed sewage line with 245 feet of eight inch sewer line.
“Some of our sewer crew let me know of a pretty severe washout to the sewer line that comes from Rachel’s Roadhouse/Fairfield Inn and runs down through the valley and actually meets at the low point of the valley,” BASA Superintendent of Engineering Services Evan Oswald explained.
“We saw some extreme stormwater erosion in the area, which caused a 12 foot manhole to washout. It also caused some problems with the sewer line down there.”
Oswald said that there were no breaks or damage to the sewer line, but that the situation is not ideal with pipe sections exposed.
That section will be eliminated with the new line in a project to be awarded at the authority’s meeting next month.
Work on this project is expected to be completed this spring with no interruptions to service.
